We have had Bumble for a week now. The original plan was to introduce him to Psyche and see if the two would live together but they kept pushing each other around. He got on much better with Gel and Alysia and so far hasn't shown any sign of wanting to mate with them so we are going to see if we made the right decision there.
We started by having the three of them out together while we could keep an eye on them. On thursday night we had them together in the large cage but kept the cage in our room so we could listen out for any fighting. There was a lot of squeaking and we kept getting up and shining a torch into the cage to see what was going on. Emma mentioned this to Bumble's orignal owner and she said that he was just a squeaker. He would squeak if other hamsters were too close to him whether they were pushing him about or not.

Hi Caroline,
Whenever we have new hamsters, especially roborovski, we tend to handle them over the bath. We let them run around in the bath (empty and dry first of course) and lean over the bath while holding them so that if they jump out of our hands they won't get loose and escape. We try to do this every day to get them used to being picked up and handled.
After doing this, they will be a lot slower and less likely to leap out of your hands but can still be a bit tricky to pick up from out of their cages.
For more hamster related info it might be worth joining the Hamster Heaven forum at www.hamster-heaven.com. There are a lot of experienced owners and breeders there who can give good advice. There are also a lot of opinionated kids though so you need to pay attention to who you listen to.

Bought 2 hamsters in the summer, were sold to us as twin sister Russian Dwarf. But from the pictures on your site I think they are Robovski. Aynway, we went to clean them out last night and we have 2 babies, we do not know what to do, do they need special food. On some sites it says leave the male in the cage, in others it says take them out. He has not attacked them so far. The place where we bought them are not very helpful. Thanking you in anticipation. Lisa
