Hi,
I thought I'd send you a few more photos of the house. We've nearly
stripped the paper from the middle room - the one where there were at
least 2 layers of paper and several of paint so the steamer was
struggling to get anything done. There's a bit of wall in this room
where the plaster was a bit soft and powdery and big chunks have come
off the wall, leaving an area about 2x1 feet across needing
replastering. As there are several bits of wall in the house where the
plaster isn't terribly flat, we think we'll get away with doing it
ourselves because if it isn't perfect, it won't look out of place!
On to the photos:

The camera can't get a wide enough angle to show the finished front
bedroom, but here you can see the paint, the drawer unit from Argos
which matches it very well, and the curtains. We're getting the
wardrobes delivered tomorrow (thursday).

The downstairs front room with the plaster removed.

Ditto the living room. Most of the stuff in the middle of the room is
rubbish which needs going to the tip.

When we peeled the paper off the wall in the back bedroom, there were
these weird symbols on the wall. They don't look sinister enough so it
was probably only someone trying to be artistic. The middle room has
'messages' written on one wall, "simon loves somebody-or-other" and
dated 1991 so we know when that wall was covered. The other walls in
that room must be older because they had more layers of paper and/or
paint, and were more difficult to strip.

Our road in the snow. Our house is on the right, directly opposite the
'low' house on the left, which is a semi-detached in a street otherwise
full of terraced houses!

This is truly bizarre. It's in the middle room and you can see where
someone has put a layer of plaster OVER some wallpaper!

Still in the middle room - before and after shots of our attempt at
plastering the wall. It's not perfectly smooth but better than before
and as I said, it doesn't look too out of place given the state of
plaster on other walls. We've nearly finished painting this room now
but I didn't have my camera with me today so no photos yet...
