Garden Organic Ryton

Story location: Home / Blog / coventry /
18/Dec/2010

We went to the Garden Organic Ryton, hoping to see the reindeer which were supposed to be there over the weekend. The snow has caused chaos on some of the roads and apparently they were held up in heavy traffic on the motorway so we didn't get chance to see them but we had a wander around the shop and garden anyway.

Some Google Maps things

Story location: Home / bits-n-bobs /
18/Dec/2010

About a week ago or so, Emma was surprised to notice that Google Maps is incapable of calculating a route from Manchester to Buxton. It works if you type in a place within Buxton, and also if you choose to calculate a walking route.

Next, looking at the live traffic on Google Maps, I noticed the region of slow traffic seemed to be concentrated in a band across the middle of the country. When I checked the weather map on the BBC, it looked like this is where all the snow has been.

Frosty Weather

Story location: Home / Blog / work /
07/Dec/2010

There has been a lot of freezing weather recently, with several days where the temperature didn't get above 0C but here in Coventry we have had very little snow. I took these photos on my way to work. All of the white on the trees is hoar-frost, not snow.

Snow in Coventry

Story location: Home / Blog / coventry /
06/Jan/2010

It started snowing yesterday and by the time we left work there about an inch or so had fallen. The main roads on the way home weren't too bad but our road was very slippery. We live on the side of a hill so I had to drive up very carefully. Even so, I could feel the car wanting to slide sideways.

The road was no better this morning. All the pavements were very icy. I walked into town to take some photos of the city centre in the snow.

Snow

It snowed overnight. Not heavily but enough to give a thin covering over everything.

28/Oct/2008

This afternoon I looked out of my office window and realised it was snowing. Apparently it had been snowing for a while but I hadn't noticed. The flakes are quite large now and it looks like it's starting to stick to the ground rather than immediately melt.

Update
It was snowing when we left this evening, to drive home. By the time we got home (about 5 miles away) the snow had stopped. There was no snow on the ground so either it melted quickly, or it hadn't snowed as much here.

We woke up this morning to find that it had snowed in the night. I took my cameras and walked into Coventry to see if I could find anything to photograph. Unfortunately the snow was melting quite quickly. It was only a thin covering to begin with - it wasn't enough to stick on the roads.

Thame Country Show

Story location: Home / Blog / Hamsters /
22/Mar/2008

The opening day of this years show was very badly attended. Many people were obviously scared off by the weather forecast predicting hail and snow. We got both during the day but only in small bursts.

We were there as part of the Hamster Show, but got some time off to wander around the show. The arena events had very small audiences compared to last year. Some of the tents and stalls in the further reaches of the site were either empty or closed.

Snow

Snow
The last few days have been getting colder in the mornings. We had some snow overnight - not much but enough to still be hanging around when I got up.

It's been getting colder in the house too. The lack of central heating is starting to become a problem. The only heater we're using is a small electric one in the front room (the Hamster room), and we've been having to slowly turn it up a bit each night to stop the room temperature from dropping too much.

It's been Snailing

Story location: Home / Blog /
23/Feb/2005

Car with snow
Yesterday, it was snailing (a cross between snow and hail - usually the small hail which floats down). It wasn't enough to stick though - it melted almost as soon as it landed. Early this morning though, it was snowing properly. Enough to force me to clear it off my car before I drove it. Thankfully, we haven't had as much snow as other parts of the country (see BBC News).
