Aqua restaurant (Gosford Street)

Story location: Home / Blog / food_and_drink /
29/Aug/2007

We've walked past this place lots of time but had been put off by the loud music coming through the front doors. It was much quieter this time so we ventured inside.

The restaurant isn't licenced but they have an extensive range of soft drinks, including freshly made fruit smoothies. We shared a mozarella and balsamic onion garlic bread starter, which was very good with lots of cheese stuffed inside. We then took advantage of their mid-week £4.99 pasta and pizza offer, and had a couple of 12" pizzas (wood fried according to the sign outside) and a penne pasta dish.

At full price, most main courses are around £7 each, which is good value. When the £5 offer is running, they become amazing value for money. An optional 10% service charge is added to the bill, but as the food was great and the service was friendly, we had no objection to paying it. This was in stark contrast to MYO where they added a compulsory service charge and illegally tried to force us to pay it. As a result we decided to never return to MYO but we're certainly going back to Aqua in the future.

They have a website which lists their menu and prices: www.aqua-food-mood.co.uk

ever since the restaurant opened i always wanted to go in and try the intruiging italian and lebanese combination menu, wow what a choice. finally i found a boyfriend and jumped at the chance to try out. we were welcomed by warm freindly staff and chose a table near the fish tank and bubble feature(hence aqua). we had some bread and hommous while we browsed the exciting menu. i had the mozz garlic bread which was amazing and he had spicy lebanese sausage. my mouth was watering before the main course arrived . i couldnt resist the house special grilled salmon and he had to show off and have the lobster (im glad he was paying)the presentation of the food made me take a pic on my phone( how sad, i kno) but i never expected a restaurant like this in coventry. the portion was perfect so we shared the home made apple crumble with cinnamon ice cream. the best part was when we were shown the garden with lit palm trees and romantic lighting. we had to have the sheesha water pipe as it was our first date, the mixed fruit flavour was recommended. it was like aroma therapy. we had fresh mint tea to finish as the night was coming to an end. sitting under the patio heater we kinda forgot we was in coventry, even england in fact it felt like we were on holiday in dubai with all the arabic music in the background. the manager was very helpful and down to earth, he felt like he was a freind rather than a host which made us feel so comfortable. the restaurant had cleaner toilets than my mums house and the open kitchen was reassuring. with the classy decor and buzzing atmosphere we expected the bill to be higher than what it was. we had enough change to go to browns for a couple of glasses of wine. cant wait to go back as i have a loyalty card now which allows me to collect points every time i spend.

Rubbish Experience

I totally disagree with you im afraid. My party was ruined at aqua, due to the food not being cooked properly. raw fish and yesterdays rice. their was 6 of us and we were crammed onto a table which was quite small. the staff we found were not very helpful and the food took ages to come. it was my choice of restaurant and i get penalised to date from my fellow colleagues who then went out to nandos to have a proper meal. what a liberty!!

Party of 50

I was there again last night, as part of a group of 50. The food was excellent. The service might have been a little slow but the restaurant was open for normal service too, so they were kept very busy. Everyone we spoke to liked it.
